About Me

Suzanne Klukas holds the eight year academic and performance degree Magister Artium in Piano Chamber Music (Master of Arts) from the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of British Columbia. A recipient of the coveted Canada Council for the Arts professional musician grant (long-term), she studied art song interpretation in Vienna, Prague and Germany with pianist Charles Spencer, one of the foremost art song interpreters in the world.

She maintains an active collaboration career and has performed in many Vancouver artist venues and the faculty performance series of most BC universities, played in recital with members of prominent orchestras in Slovenia and Austria, and appeared in England, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Poland.

Ms. Klukas started teaching piano in her young teens and is now in her twenty-fifth year of teaching at Trinity Western University. Nominated for the university teaching award, she has taught solo piano, keyboard pedagogy, keyboard literature, collaborative piano and regular performance classes for all music students. She has taught a Schubert Lied course at the Crescendo Summer Institute in Tokaj, Hungary, and has been both a piano instructor and a coach at the UBC Summer Music Institute.

Many of Ms. Klukas’ child and teen piano students are prizewinners at festivals (Vaya Festival, Kiwanis Festivals, and more) and competitions and earn top marks in Royal Conservatory of Music exams. Others find delight in making music part of a well-rounded education and joining a nurtured and nurturing community of learners.

Testimonials

I really enjoy her teaching style. Ms. Klukas is very creative. At the end of each lesson I find myself surrounded by new concepts and ideas and thoughts that will make my playing even better.
I have not only grown as a pianist, but as a musician too. Ms. Klukas is patient, kind and cheerful and always willing to find the best possible strategy for her students.
Thank you so much for all you have done! Thank you for seeing, listening and being there. With gratitude.

My Teaching

“Dear Suzanne, I am so grateful that Paul spent this year with you! He repeatedly told me how amazing you are at teaching! Thank you so much for really seeing Paul and celebrating who he is. Paul has felt that and it will make a lasting impact on his life. As a parent there is no greater gift than when someone comes along and supports our children. It is by far the greatest gift. Looking forward to next year.”

Alongside teaching the pianistic and artistic skills she has been privileged to develop with the world’s best in her field, mentoring young people is Ms. Klukas’ passion. She finds deep meaning in leading youth to find joy in the learning journey. She strives to ignite in her students the thrill of exploration, excellence, infinite discovery and creative, nuanced and stylistically truthful artistic interpretation. She delights in leading students to success and builds courage and resilience by working through challenge areas. Ms. Klukas creates an atmosphere of kindness, positive camaraderie and community within the class so students gain confidence in themselves and find joy in encouraging each other.
